About me

​

Charlotte Lang (*1996), born in Basel, is a Swiss-Dutch alto and baritone saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser. She is active in the Swiss and European jazz scene both as a soloist and within large ensembles.

​

She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree in Music Education at JAZZCAMPUS, the University of Music Basel, studying under teachers including Domenic Landolf, Dani Blanc, and Günter Wehinger.

 

In 2023, she graduated with a Master’s in Performance, Global Jazz from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, under the artistic direction of Danilo Pérez. There, she worked with renowned musicians such as John Patitucci, George Garzone, Godwin Louis, and Frank Tiberi. She was also part of the Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice led by Terri Lyne Carrington.

Charlotte is a member of both the Swiss Jazz Orchestra and the Basel Jazz Orchestra and was a member of the Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) from 2020 to 2022 and. Additionally, she has played with internationally acclaimed big bands including the UMO Jazz Orchestra (Helsinki), the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, and the SWR Big Band.

Alongside her work as a sidewoman - collaborating with artists such as MISS C-LINE, Belinda Bones, deb., and Klapparat - she has led her own band, the Charlotte Lang Group (CLG).

The quintet performs her original compositions rooted in modern jazz, offering space for improvisational freedom. Her debut album The Journey was released on October 25, 2024, by Unit Records in the newly established Alpha Edition.

In 2023, she was selected as one of five musicians for the US-based Sisters in Jazz program, and in 2020, she was a winner of the Swiss SOFIA Project (Support of Female Improvising Artists), led by Nicole Johänntgen.

​

Since 2025, Charlotte teaches saxophone, flute, clarinet, and workshop at the JAZZCAMPS Basel in the music school jazz department.

​

Charlotte Lang’s musical focus lies in a sonically diverse, open-minded jazz language, deeply rooted in both compositional depth and improvisational spontaneity.
